The watergun hit Aladdin full force, sending him flying. He landed with a thump, and slowly, slowly, with Nero's urging, got back up. He was just a little bird! He didn't need to be manhandled like that... "Come on, Al," Nero said, reassuringly. "One more blow. You have to charge yourself, take a breather, and then let loose a peck attack. Use the rest of your strength on this, alright?" he said all of this too softly to his pokemon for Joselyn to hear. He didn't want her to know of his strategy...
"Now... go! Peck!" He cried out, and just as quickly, using the rest of his strength, Aladdin flitted toward Squirtle, his peck aimed and hopefully true to its mark. Nero gritted his teeth. Boy, this got intense fast!

The Squirtle was caught off guard from such a swift, violent attack. It fell from the peck, down for the count. Joselyn scowled and recalled her pokemon. "You've won this round," She said, but she pulled a second pokeball from her pouch. She tossed it into the air, and in a burst of light, her second pokemon was out. "Mudkiiiip!" It cried, ready for battle. This was the weakest pokemon she had, and hopefully it would throw Nero off. Surely he didn't know that there was a stronger pokemon waiting, just waiting for the chance to wipe the floor with him...
"Draw your pokemon," She said, glaring at Nero with her icey eyes.
Aladdin collapsed almost right after the final attack, spent and so worn out it couldn't continue. Nero recalled the bird, and smiled. Good job, boy, he thought silently. That was an awesome battle by his new pokemon indeed. He put the ball back on his belt, and debated on who to use next. Banshee jumped up at his side, ready to go. She wanted the action next! But he held his hand back. "No, girl, I need you for later... I promise, next gym we come to, you'll be my first pick." She looked at him, debated, then scowled and sat back down, obedient. He had already picked his next two pokemon. He decided on Senor for this fight, and threw out the ball that released the Butterfree. "Free free!" He cried, flapping his wings and soaring into the air.
"Go, Senor! Confusion!" The Butterfree concentrated on the little Mudkip, and sent out wave after wave of energy, trying to confuse it by hitting it from all sides.

Joselyn hadn't expected the evolved bug, but she didn't miss a beat. She was more than prepared for any kind of pokemon, and kind of attack. That's what it took to be a gym leader. She knew that attacks like Tackle wouldn't work when Butterfree would just be able to fly away from it, so she'd have to use a water attack despite its lack of effect. What she now had to hope for would be to soak the Butterfree's wings enough to ground the bug, and get Mudkip to attack it there. Before she could act, however, Mudkip had been hit by the Confusion attack. She saw her pokemon hypnotized, dazed, even as the blow landed, but instead of firing Water Gun when Joselyn ordered it, once Mudkip regained herself, Mudkip used a Tackle attack. It was no where near hitting Butterfree, and she ended up hurting herself in her confusion. Joselyn groaned inwardly-Mudkip had been confused!
"That's it..." Nero murmured, proud of his Butterfree. He'd never seen a confused pokemon before, and he found it quite amusing. A smirk pulled at his lips. "Alsright, Senor, I want you to use a Tackle attack next..." He couldn't give the opponent any time to recover!
"Free, free," Butterfree cried, taking aim and diving at the Mudkip. However, it hesitated halfway down, cautious of the flaling pokemon. New to battles, Senor wasn't very confident in himself... He didn't want to get dragged into the turmoil down below. Nero, however, scowled, and snapped, "Tackle, now!" This time, Senor snapped to attention, and continued toward the Mudkip. This attack was filled to the brim with confidence, and thus stronger than the previous one would have been. It seemed Senor hated being yelled at.

Mudkip took the blow, too confused to realize it was aimed at her. Joselyn had yelled out encouragement, but Mudkip hadn't seemed to notice. And now, Mudkip hit the floor hard, and rolled once, but hopped back up, apparently cured of confusion. The blow had knocked some sense back into her! Joselyn smiled, but then she took note of how weak her Mudkip had been...a critical hit had been what caused the confusion to disappear... "Let's try this again, Mudkip!" she said. "Water gun! Aim for the wings!"
"Stun spore!" Nero said, acting quickly once the water gun attack was announced. Senor acted as if he shared a mind with his master, and started to shed the spores on his wings. As a result, he couldn't move fast enough to dodge the attack, and got soaked. Trying to stay aloft, Senor flapped his wings rapidly, but the downward spiral was starting... With a THUMP! Senor landed on the ground, and bounced once or twice before coming to a stop. Getting up, standing on his two feet, he shook off the water. Not too much damage done, especially since it was a low level pokemon doing an almost harmless attack...
"Tackle, again!" Nero said, out of other attacks for Senor to use. Butterfree's attacks were based on flying... Butterfree began running, a bit awkwardly, towards Mudkip.

Mudkip braced itself, but the larger pokemon still sent it flying. It landed with a squeak, and instantly tried getting up. It couldn't do it, however... The pokemon collapsed again, and this time didn't move. Joselyn recalled it, and sighed. This new, cocky trainer... Ugh! She didn't want to lose to him. She still had her trump card, however... Her Swablu. She threw her last pokeball into the air, calling upon her last hope. "Swablu, come out!"
The little bird appeared in a burst of light, with a coo. It flapped around Joselyn on wings of cotton, soon settling on her shoulder. "Battle time, girl," the gym leader said, and pointed toward the Butterfree. Swablu flew over to it, flapping its wings to stay aloft. Before it got all the way there, Joselyn ordered, "Astonish! Finish that Butterfree off!"
The Swablu rushed forward at a startling speed, that would make any pokemon flinch.
"Free, free!" Butterfree cheered when he saw the Mudkip go down. Nero smirked, elated that the battle was almost over. One more pokemon! And he had the upper hand at the moment... He prepared to give an order to attack, but BAM! The next pokemon came out in a blurr, and was heading for Butterfree, delivering a powerful move. It was super effective, given the types, and Butterfree had already been weakened a bit... Senor was done. He fell over, in a faint.
Nero recalled his pokemon, but he was far from being worried. He had changed his mind once he saw Swablu; a flying pokemon should take on a flying opponent! "Banshee, you're up." Banshee looked up at him, startled but pleased. She hadn't expected to be called upon, from what Nero had said earlier. But as she took a step forward, a white light surrounded her- and the pokemon that emerged wasn't Banshee the Houndour anymore... but Banshee the Houndoom! With a howl, she leapt into battle, not even waiting for Nero's order before launching into a Bite attack, aiming to tear off one of Swablu's wings.

Swablu dodged the attack easily, flitting through the air. She flew higher than the Houndoom could reach from the ground. Houndoom weren't normally pokemon that could fly... so the wings on this beast threw Swablu off. "Fury attack," Joselyn said, trying to focus on the battle. She had been impressed by that Houndoom- an amazing critter, to say the absolute least. Anyone would have to admire it! But this was a battle, and- sorry little boy, I have to defeat your pride and joy. Swablu could do this!
Swablu darted toward the Houndoom, aiming to hit up to five times.
Banshee was struck the first time, and the second. She reeled, almost doing a backflip to get away from the attack. She ended up taking to the air, spreading her thin, veined wings and flapping them only three times before she was up and above Swablu. "Fly!" Nero said, seeing that she was in the perfect position to do so. She flew even higher, and wheeled right around, diving at the Swablu. A tiny target, but she was able to aim confidently. Her wings tucked against her sides as she went, claws out to hit the pokemon, and repel her back into the air instead of crashing down below.

"Move your tail!" Joselyn snapped, stressing due to the intensity of this battle. She ran a hand through her hair, eyes intent on Swablu. The little bird quickly moved to the side and let Houndoom spiral toward the ground. That was easy enough! "That's it! Now, let's hear that lovely voice of yours! Sing, Swablu, and put that puppy to sleep!"
Suddenly, Swablu's angelic voice filled the air, attempting to distract the Houndoom and make her sleepy.
Banshee hit the ground in a leap, and bounded across the floor at her fastest speed, gaining enough momentum to shoot back up into the air. She heard a sound, but the rushing air in her ears blocked out the song for the most part. She was listening closely for her Master's order, and soon enough, she heard it. "Ember! While airborne!"
Not one to disobey someone who's proved worthy of her friendship, she inhaled sharply, converted it to flame, and shot out an Ember attack at the flying pokemon, as it was distracted, singing its little heart out. Banshee would show her up.

The Ember attack hit home, catching the Swablu's wings on fire. The song abruptly stopped, and the little bird started to flap madly around, trying to get the flames to go out. Soon enough, they did, but by then, the Swablu was so worn out. It still wanted to fight, that was apparent, but by the engergetic Houndoom that was still flying around, unhindered by fatigue, Joselyn knew that she was beaten. She hated to throw in the towel, but she had to, in this case. For her pokemon... "Swablu, return. That was an awesome battle, girl... You really flew fast." She tucked the pokeball away and approached Nero, digging into her pocket for the badge. She took it out and held it out for the boy to take. "You did better than I expected, boy. Good showing. Take care of that pokemon." She nodded to the Houndoom.
Banshee smirked as the flames hit. She tilted her head back and howled her name, her tail whipping around as her wings flapped slowly, cupping the wind, allowing her to hover in place. She watched the little bird fly all around, and ten come to a stop with her owner, little sides heaving like mad. Ah, she quite loved doing these things to the smaller, the weak...there was glory in taking down larger enemies, but pleasure in taking down the small ones too. She flew around the room in her triumph, before gradually coming back to Nero. She landed next to him, just as Joselyn handed him the badge. Nero took it and put it on his coat collar, smirking and shaking the woman's hand. "Thanks for the battle. See ya." And he turned to leave. Banshee padded after him, feeling prideful in her new form. Chrono walked after them as well, a little miffed that he didn't get to fight, but pleased they were free again...
