Operation Dachshund:
[Codename: OD]
Prologue
Last year, my sister and I have wanted a cockatiel and a dachshund for awhile. We already had two white doves, 100+ fish, and a great golden retriever, Annie. The last day of school, our parents surprised us with purchasing a cockatiel we know call Peanut.
Peanut is very cute, lovable and she got along great with our doves. However, we had to give away the doves for we thought they'd be much happier in a new home. I was very saddened, but I did what I believed would be right.
I figured, that I still had my fish, my dog and Peanut... but soon, they fish all were given back to the pet store, due to they were breeding like crazy, and once a month, my females Muppit, Lion and Static had more... So, we gave all 100+ of them back and I soon wanted another fish...
Awhile went by, and I had found myself with an old bowl of my first fish, Swimmy, no longer occupied by the new born baby fish . So, my Mom and Dad agreed to buy my Sharktooth, who is currently spazing out in his fish bowl.
I was very happy, but, I still wanted a Dachshund. When I brought the subject to my Mother after visiting her friends dog, Daisy, she replied, "I'd think that'd be fun." We went home, we asked my Dad, "No." So, my sister and I have been doing research on them instead to try to convince him that we want one...
It wasn't until I started clean my room earlier today when I thought of a plan...
The Plan
Over the course of the next yeat, my sister and I have agreed to save up our weekly allowance ($10 each) in hopes to get enough to beable to buy the dachshund and supplies ourself. I am also going to babysit for additional money. If you do the math, that's over $1,000 [math below]. Our mother also said, if we get over a thousand dollars by May 5th, 2008, she'll pay us $0.50 for every dollar we make... But, we had more ideas...
The dog wouldn't go downstairs without my sister or myself. MY sister and I live on the second floor, we basically have our own apartment, without a kitchen and such. We have our bedrooms, and a bathroom... anyway...
We'd take it downstairs to go outside for a walk. We don't have a gate outside, except for the pool area which is where the dog would be able to hang out during the summer if it was not on the leash.
My sister and I were also considering something along the lines my neighbors have for their dog, Bears. They put Bears on a rope that is attached on a tree, so Bears can run around the backyard as she wishes, but can't run off. Bears is very much bigger then a dachshund, so I doubt the Dachshund would be able to do anythign to get the rope untied or something along those lines.
Alright, we are also going to make sure our rooms are clean every day, this also includes the hallway and the bathroom. We are going to do all the chores we should, when we should, before we are told. Also, this will all be done before we come on the computer [including homework].
Alright, May 4th, 2008 and we are going to confront our parents about this. I have about a year to get this fully planned...
Math
My allowance: $10 x 52= $520
My sisters: $10 x 52= $520
Total: $520 +$520= $1040
Babysitting [estimate for summer]: $300
New Total: $1040 + $300= $1340
Money from Mom: $1340 x 1/2= $600
Newer Total: $1340 + $600= $1940
** Note for Ky, I didn't forget about you, don't worry. ^-^
Why we want a dachshund...
I've wanted another dog ever since I was alittle girl. I've brought the subject to my parents quite a few times, never with a plan, just a question, "Can we get a dachshund?" As I've said, they usually have answered no, so then I'd go up to my room and think about ways to get one, and I think now I finally have a good one.
Plus, they are adorable, and would make a great pet for my sister and I. Not only that, but I believe that Annie, our current dog, needs someone to keep her company while we aren't home. Annie is getting older, yes, and her friends are also getting old. The saddest part is, her closest friend, Ribs [Bears "sister"] is in alot of pain. Her owner thinks that Ribs will be lucky to live for another year [this said several months ago].... Annie's going to need someone else who is always there to play... sure there is Shiloh, the neighbors dog, but he's not allowed over, for he lives a bit further away. Ribs, lives right next door, their homes are closer then Annies and Shilohs. Bears is the only other option, but, Bears doesn't really like Annie after she teased Bears for not being allowed over [Bears was young at the time.. and still is...]
Not only that, but Annie is getting old, she's almost ten, and well, I want her to beable to try to pass on her personality to another dog. I love her so much, and if we don't get another to learn her temperment from her soon, then if we get another dog, who's going to help make sure its just like Annie? Annie has made my grandparents friends want to get dogs
I also want to be able to show dogs. Annie is getting to tired and to old to want to train anymore. I really'd like to start competing in trials and shows, and we can thank Shadow and Lightning for that. ^-^
I am aware of the
I am completly aware of all the responsiblities a dog can be. Feeding, cleaning up after it, replacing stuff the puppy might chew up, medical bills, back troubles [other health troubes too]... and so on. I am aware of all of this, so, I know what to expect with the dachshund....
Questions they'll ask
This is where you come in... what do you think they might ask, what do you have to add to my argument to get another, or what do you think about this at all. I appreciate all the advice I can get. I have a few questions here that I am sure they'll ask, but I have some answers:
1) Q: What about when we go away?
A: Unlike Annie, Dachshunds are small dogs, and therefore, easier to travel with. She won't climb through seats, I can hold her in a small carrying cage or on my lap.
((Yes, this is also posted in MML, but... I wanted to post it here too XD))
Thanks guys. Yes, I could always get a harness, and/or have it sit on my lap... but, I have structured the research/planning for the next year:
First 6 Months- Alot of research
Second 6 Months- Make a looong powerpoint to show how serious you are
Yeah... XD That's my plan for the next, um, year. Alright... I am getting my Mom on tape saying she'll always help me with whatever I need, no matter what. -coughneedhelpconvincingherselfandmydadtoletmegetadachshund- Tehe....
Okay, so, that's all the updates for now... oh, and I have a nice notebook with all my research. x3
