Well, he did it.
He didn't know how he had managed it, but - he did it. In his hand, encrusted with a tiny water drop (a trick he'd learned from his father), was the red and white orb containing his very first pokémon.
Oh, certiainly it wasn't the first he'd come in contact with, no; before his accident, his father had been a decently known trainer. None of Dai's father's pokémon had been suitable for battle for quite some years, but Dai had been well acquainted with them nonetheless.
It was his pokémon though. His very own pokémon.
"Come on out, buddy." He murmured. With a neon flash of red and a yelp of surprise - there sat a Totodile.
Dai sat hard on the bench he was standing by as the full effect of the situation hit him. He had a pokémon. He had his trainer's lisence. He was leaving the only home he'd ever known to throw himself into a profession he wasn't entirely certain he wanted, and there, in front of him, sat the very tangible, very lively evidence of this initiation.
"I'm either very dumb, or very lucky." Dai mumbled to himself, looking very dazedly at the Totodile in front of him.
"Daiiii?" The being queried, and Dai's eyes refocused sharply.
"Did you just say my name?"
"To! To! Diiile!" It - he, upon further examination - responded.
"Oh, no. Of course you didn't. But - well, what should I call you? I can't keep calling you Totodile; I'll be hearing enough of that from you." The Totodile glanced up at his owner with a look of curiosity, tilting his head any which way. Daisuke couldn't help but smile.
"Well, I said I was either dumb or lucky, but I suppose I've always been something of an optimist - so buddy, from henceforth," he mocked gaily, "I dub thee Lucky."
And with the formation of that first, tentative bond, came a flooding of joy that quelled the doubts in Daisuke's heart. His path would be hard, that was for sure; but he would never have to travel alone.
