Ah, the water at last... Nero was parched. He kneeled by the edge, pertched on a rock, and dipping his hands into the cool liquid, cupping them and bringing them to his lips, sipping. Ah...that hit the spot! He sighed, sitting back on his heels, looking around. Chrono's firelight reflected off the water's surface, and looked dazzeling with the glow of the sky and the stars. But Nero took no note of this; he had bigger fish to fry. He took his pokeball and released his Houndour. She appeared on a rock next to him, and immediately started to snarl. "Hey, girl, chill!" Nero ordered, but she didn't like the orders. She took to the air, but not before Nero jumped up and grabbed her paw, tugging her back down to the ground. He held onto her as she flapped her wings. "I'm not going to hurt you.." he told her firmly, his grip rock solid but not closing in on her. "I need to give you a name..."
"Char." Chrono tilted his head, looking at the Houndour. He seemed interested, but hesitant. This thing was beastly... levels below himself, but a fair opponent. He didn't like her much at the moment, but if Nero liked her...he would learn to deal. However, the pokemon seemed reassured by his company. She was higher up in the pecking order, as she still considered him a piece of scum. She relaxed a bit. No attacks were coming her way... But when she was released, she hopped a few rocks away. Thankfully, she didn't try to run off or fly again.

Nero sighed. He'd have to win this one over...but he had no clue where to start. Chrono had been loyal from the get-go, and he hadn't actually bonded with a pokemon before.. He looked out over the water, and the rocks, and knew this was no place to get some sleep. But he wanted to set up a fire just the same, so he rummaged around between the rocks, finding little twigs and dried grasses here and there, until he had enough for a little pile. He called Chrono over, and had him perform Ember, his only fire move as yet, and lite the little pieces. It burst into a good sized fire, and he fed it as it continued to burn. Chrono laid down on the rock closest to the fire, laying down on his stomach and using his arms for a pillow. He looked sideways at his owner. A little rebellious now, but still the same loving pokemon Nero had started out with... Chrono wanted to evolve again; he had high hopes he would grow wings too, and be able to fly like the Houndour could...
Meanwhile, the Houndour stared at the others. She was determined not to go over to them. She had to remain here; she had her pride to think about... She curled up right where she was, and set to watching the night, her wings furled at her sides. Her peaceful rest was disturbed only when Nero tossed her a bit of a pokemon treat. She jumped, startled, and growled, looking for the enemy, but the smell caught her, and she found the treat, gobbling it up. So he thought he could win her over with treats, eh...?

When the second treat came flying her way, she was ready! She leapt into the air and caught it, her wings allowing her to land lightly, without hurting herself. She growled, "Houuuundour!" at Nero, but her hatred of him had lessened a little. So far, she hadn't been mistreated, and she had been lonely enough... but at the same time, the fear that the same thing would happen again was so strong that it overpowered this seemingly fake sense of security.
But Nero wasn't giving up so easily. He tossed her a third treat, delighted when she did a flip to catch it. He chuckled to himself, but otherwise didn't show his feelings. He was in good spirits, nonetheless, and partly simply because it was nighttime. Not to let him feel left out, he also tossed Chrono a treat, and the Charmeleon lifted up a clawed paw to catch it, and gulp it down. He blew fire into the air, a little Ember attack, to show how pleased he was. Then his stomach rumbled...

The Houndour seemed to be feeling better, and more lively. Perhaps she was slowly forgiving him? He knew she would probably never be like Chrono was, but this was a start... firstly, she came over to him, sitting next to him. She allowed Nero to touch her, to pet her soft black fur. It was almost silky to the touch... Her wings, she would not tolerate him to feel, but the bones that covered her little body were made to be touched, it seemed. Smooth, almost like ivory, and stark white in the nighttime. Nero ran his fingers over the surface, until Chrono interupted their intimate moment. "Char..." he said softly, sitting next to Nero. The Houndour jumped back and howled to the sky. It was just a passing thing, that most dogs did, because Nero knew that she didn't know that move... But the sound cut through the night eeriely, like a scream.
That's it! He jumped up, upsetting Chrono, who growled reproachfully before reminding himself that Nero, his master, could do anything he pleased. "I know your name now!" he told the Hell Hound. "I'll call you Banshee. How's that? You know what a Banshee is, right? In folklore, it's a female spirit that screams when someone dies..."
Banshee appeared to like the name, and barked at him, her stubby tail wagging.

Nero leaned back to look at the stars. Banshee watched him for a little bit, then went to the stream, standing in the shallows and taking a nice refreshing sip of the water. She growled to herself, glancing back at Nero. She could run away...she could do it! It wouldn't take that much effort... She looked into the night, in the direction of the nearest town- still far enough off to not be in sight, but she knew it was approaching. She knew this area... Slowly, silently, she moved off.
Nero had seen her go and get a drink, so he wasn't worried when she wasn't in sight. It was a dark night, and she was a dark colored pokemon... He had believed he'd made a breakthrough with her. But it was Chrono who nudged his shoulder after a few more minutes of silence. It was too quiet... Nero sat up and looked at Chrono, curiously. "What is it?"
The lizard looked over to where Banshee had been, and Nero got up to go investigate. He found nothing... No pokemon, no Banshee. Had she been poke-napped? No, couldn't have been! He was alone... She had to have run off... A sick feeling began to grow in his stomach. "Banshee!" He called, but to no avail.

Nero started off in the direction he figured Banshee would have gone, which was towards the city. If she wasn't in that direction, well.. There was a city that way, and he could rest, recharge, and go back if he needed to. "Come on, Chrono," he said, dousing the flame with a few handful of water from the stream. Together, the pokemon and its master walked along the side of the rushing water, until splash! Chrono stepped in the water itself, and let out an annoyed roar of "CHAR!!!" and belched out flame that shot over Nero's head. "Dang, boy!" Nero said, ducking. "What where you're aiming that mug of yours!" He'd almost gotten his hair singed, and that would have been completely horrible...
They continued along in silence for a little ways, with Nero up ahead scanning the area for any sign of movement. He was keeping a decent speed, and Chrono sometimes had to jog to keep up.
Meanwhile, Banshee was still out in the open, racing along the side of the stream. "Houn...dour...houn...dour... " she panted as she ran. Her wings were furled tightly at her sides, so she wouldn't trip over them as she ran. Her paws pounded feriously, but quietly, on the stones that she sent scattering everywhere. She didn't know where she was going...she just needed some time alone.

It wasn't long before Banshee grew tired of running. She was a fighter, not a wuss that fled! She pulled up, and looked around, trying to see if anyone had followed her. No one in sight, yet. She was pretty worn out, though she'd rather not admit it to anyone... She had fought a very hard battle, and lost. She still hadn't recovered from that, and now she'd run a few miles on rough terrain. It would have been so much easier to fly, but then she would have been spotted, no doubt... She yawned widely, and decided to find a nice place to nap.
Nero and Chrono were nearing in on where Banshee was. They were practically running down the bank, with Nero concentrating extremely hard on finding the pokemon. He didn't dare call her name, incase she heard and ran from it. His eyes couldn't see that far around them, and he was beginning to worry about having passed her already...
Chrono stuck close to his master now. He was feeling a bit weaker as they traveled, due to the earlier fighting, but nothing to worry about yet. He kept his mouth shut, so as not to emit any warning flames.

Alittle pokemon, around level four, squirmed over. Its eyes were wet with tears, it was a lone pokemon, with no one to confort it. It spotted in the distance three creatures, one was large with the other two smaller ones at its side, and they looked scary. The pokemon continued to squirm over, every squirm draining the energy of the adorable little guy. He was tired, and needed rest, which hopefully would come soon. As he squirmed, his eyes grew wetter and wetter in hopes of a new home... ((Major brain dud))

((for the record, Banshee (houndour) isn't with them at the moment ^^ ))
Nero nearly tripped over something in the dark. He shifted his weight backward, and he ended up falling over on Chrono, who tried to catch him but didn't quite make it. They fell in a pile, but Nero quickly hopped up. What was it?? He could just see something... a Caterpie!! He frowned. A little bug... did he want it, or should he put it out of its misery? He looked at Chrono, who had picked himself up. "Let's get this thing..." he said.
Chrono stood at the ready, waiting for a command to come his way, but it seemed Nero had other plans... He pulled out a pokeball, and simply threw it at the Caterpie. It was rash, and most likely he wouldn't snag a pokemon so easily, but hey... He had noticed how weak it was, how it was just sitting there...

The Caterpie didn't see the brightly colored ball until it was too late to late to dodge. He reared back, letting out a squeal, trying in a last ditch effort of instinct to shoot out a stringshot and block the ball, but there was no stopping it. The ball and pokemon touched, and the red light washed over the weakening Caterpie. It disappeared into the ball, which closed on the ground and proceeded to rock back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth. And then, with a click, it stayed still. The Caterpie had no energy to fight the ball, and even if it had... it could never have run away from a second attack.

Yes! Nero smirked smugly when the pokeball ceased moving. He went over to it and picked it up. The Caterpie was his! Sure, it was a weakling pokemon, but he'd heard that the gym coming up was water based...and, well, his own fire pokemon wouldn't do so well. He'd just have to train up this Caterpie, and get it stronger! In order to train it, however, it would need to be out and doing stuff... So he held the ball, and made it open, revealing the sleepy caterpie. It looked at him, and curled up right where he stood. Nero scooped the poor thing up and put it on his shoulder. Better place than none, for now. He turned to Chrono, and motioned for them to continue on their way. But, just then, Chrono ran off into the forest. All Nero could see of him was his flaming red tail... Oh, snap! Not again! Nero ran after him, nearly upsetting the little bug pokemon. "Chrono!" he hissed.
But Chrono had smelled something, and he had to check it out.
