Fang leaned on the side of the building, painfully bored. He could hear the sounds of a fight echoing out of the gym. Hopefully, the girl would beat the gym leader quickly and strongly, and be right out. His stomach was growling even more than usual at the prospect of food. Maybe he could go to an all-you-can-eat buffet... Yeah, that sounded really nice. His mouth was watering at the mere idea. Somehow, that made all the annoyances he'd put up with worthwhile. Food, food, food, real food, finally! It was all that invaded his thoughts. And it made him impatient for the girl to win her badge and come out.

When Elaine came out, there was a spring in her step and a smile on her face. "Hey, Fang! Ready to eat? I'm am starving!" All of her pokemon, yes all, were running around her cheerfully. The Gym Leader had agreed to heal her pokemon, after a small amount of begging.
Drasei was curled around her neck again, making a soft sound between a purr and a growl. Moontear was perched on her shoulder still, hooting softly. Nicker was chittering in Lissa's ears, and clearly boasting about his battle... Even though Lissa would interrupt to tell the real story. Virva was sniffing the air, clearly hungry as well.
Elaine glanced to her pokemon happily. "I won...Obviously. I couldn't believe her pokemon! I mean, all of them were less than my weakest pokemon, yeah?" She tried to make conversation with Fang, but something told her it would be in vain...Still, nothing would kill her mood.

"But come ye back when summer's in the meadow Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow 'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so."
A quiet voice began drifting over the town, growing louder, but still quiet, as if an object was coming nearer. The tune was slow, somber, and haunting, causing chills on even the toughest spine. Slowly, the words became comprehensible. If one could understand the meaning, it was sure to send yet another shiver down the spine. Such a haunting, lonely tune... What could possibly be causing it?
"And if you come, when all the flowers are dying And I am dead, as dead I well may be You'll come and find the place where I am lying And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me."

Fang was about to comment on how overly cheerful she was, but stopped abrubtly. Food, miraculously, was suddenly swept from his mind as the voice floated over him like a haunting spirit. That voice... that voice... But it couldn't be...
"That voice..." he said, his voice suddenly dry and cracked. His face was gaunt and shocked, like someone who'd just seen the living dead. His red eyes were wide, his pupils small. Even his horns seemed to sink under the oppresive emotions he was feeling. "It can't be.... It just... can't be..."
But was it? What else could it be... That song, that song! It couldn't be anyone else!

As the voice floated to her ears, Elaine felt her feelings crash and burn... To a slow, serene feeling. It was like she'd gone from soaring to floating across still water... She didn't know who it was, or what it was, but it had to keep singing... She'd do anything to have it keep singing!
All of her pokemon had fallen silent, and were staring towards the area the voice was coming from. Moontear silently lifted into flight, and gave low hoots...Almost as if she was adding to it... Virva, Lissa, and Nicker began to sway in unison. Drasei slowly slithered off of Elaine to the ground and sat as tall as he could, swaying like a snake being charmed.
"It can't be...Real..." Elaine whispered softly, afraid to break into the beautiful, ethereal tones of whatever was singing.

The voice continued, growing louder as if closer, soft yet so strong, gentle, not forcing its way into the heart, but snaking in on soft notes and slow melodies. Filled to the brim with such longing, such love, such lonliness, that tears seemed a natural reaction, yet somehow not enough. The voice sang of love, being abandoned, but loving still, and longing, such powerful, powerful longing...
"And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me. I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to-"
As the voice grew closer it stopped abruptly. Coming around the turn was a young girl, walking slowly along in tune to her music. Her skin was pure white, her hair pale green. She wore a pale red top, and a white skirt, with long, flowing green sleeves covering both her arms and legs. Her eyes widened, the voice completely halted mid-phrase.
She began running as fast as she could to the shocked boy and girl, her sleeves trailing in the wind. Even as she ran, she maintained an air of frail femininity. She reached the blackened boy and jumped into him, wrapping her arms around his neck, tears streaming down her face.
"Big brother!" she sobbed into his shoulder.

The boy looked more shocked than any other as the voice continued to sing. His face was gaunt as if trapped in a dream long past. His eyes widened still as the girl turned the corner. A flash of recognized burned the air between them. As she ran towards him, he made no attempt to move, either towards her or away, but stood, as though he was carved of stone and could no more move than he could fly.
He was still frozen as the girl wrapped her arms around him, sobbing into him the tears of years lost, and the endless sorrow and lonliness that filled her songs with such depth. He was frozen, standing there even as she cried. Then, slowly, shakily, as if a robot newly awakened from slumber, he wrapped his arms around her, holding her to him as if he would never let her go again.

When the music stopped, the spell was broken...Leaving Elaine feeling slightly empty. She backed away from the two, not understanding the effect of the music in her. She'd never had this feeling before...It was like someone had sucked the emotion from her. Who was this girl...And how did she have such a control? "Growlll... Oh my goodness..." She had started off in a growlithe cry, only to shock herself and run her hands through her hair.
"I'll, um...Leave you two alone..." Elaine called out softly, before turning and sprinting away... She didn't know where she was going, but anyone who saw her would assume she was running towards the land outside.

The young girl looked up from her brother, towards the paniced young girl beside him. She did not know who she was, but she must be a friend.
"Wait!" she called out. Her voice was soft and clear, melodic even when not singing. "Please, wait!" She pouted at the girl's retreating back. Had she caused problems? She glanced up at her brother again. There was so much to be said, but it would have to wait until the girl had been informed as to what was going on. She unwrapped herself from her brother's arms, and began running after her. She seemed almost to glide, and she was incredibly fast. Much faster than a girl her age should have been.
"Please, wait a moment!" she begged. She could catch up with the girl easily, but she didn't want to cause more panic.

Fang was still in a semi-comotose state when Elaine began running away. He probably wouldn't have even reacted, for his mind was swimming in nostalgia, memories of the past. He wasn't entirely awake, it seemed, but it was enough to react. He heard his sister call out to Elaine, who was running away as fast as she could, then begin to run after her. With a resigned sigh, Fang began to run as well, just as fast if not faster than his sister. He caught up to his sister quickly. What was he doing, randomly running? Still, he had to move, do something, or the emotions would overcome him. They weren't emotions he was used to.

Elaine stopped as the voice hit her again, feeling for a brief moment the feeling of calm once more. "Growliii.... I-I-I'm s-sorry..." She said, turning around with a large blush on her face. "It's j-just...Y-your s-song... Th-then you s-stopped, a-and..." She trailed off, not even able to make sense of her own words. She took a deep breath, before glancing to Virva, with Drasei around her neck...
She bent down and picked up Drasei, placing him around her neck once more. She almost felt naked without him there, and it was a source of comfort to know she wasn't dreaming. "I...I'm Elaine." She said softly, hanging her head. This girl made Elaine resort to her pokemon genes to make sense of her own emotions.
Frankly, the sounds of a growlithe coming from her own mouth, just partially, had scared her more than the two. But more than that, the sudden empty emotion that had come over her when the girl had stopped singing.

Serenity smiled. It was such a smile, kind and full of warmth. Was this really the girl who'd been singing such sad songs mere moments ago? "I'm very happy to meet you, Elaine!" she said, and she did indeed seem happy. Her little angelic face almost seemed to glow. She was clearly completely unaware of the effect she seemed to have on people and Pokemon alike.
Come to think of it, she was a little odd herself. White skin, green hair? There weren't too many people like that wandering around. Not to mention her singing... Who the heck was she, anyway?

Fang seemed to have recovered, at least partially, by the time they had all stopped running. His normal scowl was back on his face. He sighed and rubbed his head.
"Serenity, what did I tell you before about your song? You can't just go around singing wantonly! Someone's going to freak out, like Elaine."
He turned to Elaine with another sigh. "This is Serenity, my..... sister. We got seperated a while ago, and, apparently, she's taken to wandering around," he said with another dark scowl. He hadn't seen her for a long, long time, and the shock hadn't quite warn off. Serenity knew the story; they couldn't stay together long. An hour or two, at the most.

"It wasn't the words, I...I don't know what she was singing, it was the voice..." She tried to explain to Fang, but knew she sounded ridiculous. "I wasn't scared by the song, I was scared by the fact the pokemon part of me responded." She shuddered, remembering the feeling. Lissa immediately purred from her side.
Reaching down to pet Lissa, she offered weakly,"So...I'll assume you're going to join Fang and I for dinner...? I'll pay." Elaine's smile was weak, but warm. She wasn't sure of herself right now. If this girl sang again, would the growlithe side of her return?

Serenity's innocent eyes seemed to positively glow. "Would you really?" she gushed in her cute little voice. "Thank you so much; that would be wonderful!" Her sweet ways and cute voice seemed to have the same effect on everyone. It made one wonder: how could something so innocent still exist in this world? After all, she looked fairly developed. Fourteen years old, perhaps? Somewhere around there. Most people lost their innocent ways around the age of... four. How had she kept hers for another ten years at least?
Then four Pokemon rounded the corner and came running over to her. They must have lagged behind for some reason. One was a completely normal Chikorita, who stood, looking very protective of the young girl. The second was a Chimecho, who flew over to the delighted young girl and landed in her outstretched hands immediately. The third was an incredible looking Ponyta. He was white, except for his two black left legs, and his mane flared with the colors of the rainbow. The very last was a Ralts, but had a light blue hat and two icey blue wings.
Serenity smiled again. "This is Patience, Kindness, Trust, and Hope," she said, pointing to the Chikorita, Chimecho, Ponyta, and Ralts in turn.

Fang continued to scowl. "I know that," he said irritably to Elaine. "She does that to everyone. And she SHOULD know better," he said, with a sharp look towards Serenity. "But she'll keep it to herself for now, right, Serenity?" he said pointedly.
The word dinner reminded him of his still empty stomach. Doubtless that his sister was faring better. People probably threw free food at her. She certainly looked a lot less threatening than he did. He glanced at her Pokemon. Of course she had become a trainer. It was natural for them. But he rather doubted she'd been in a single fight yet. Chances were, all of the Pokemon had started following her because of her singing.
"Sure," he said, in response to Elaine. "Let's get something to eat. I'm starved."

"How about... A buffet? They have a special area for pokemon, with all kinds of...Oh, whatever. It's this way." Elaine blushed and turned to the right, walking quite a bit until they reached the end of the street...There, at the very, very far end, was something entitled,"Buffet for All".
Elaine opened up the doors and winked at the owner. "H-hello. P-put the m-meal on the Caldwell T-tab." She said quietly, before suddenly, every staff member in there screamed.
"It's Elaine Caldwell, the daughter of Johnathan Caldwell! Treat her well, maybe her dad will give us more money!" One waitress said. Elaine just simply blushed and dropped her head, glancing back to Fang and Serenity. "Err...My family is rich..."

Serenity hadn't seemed to notice anything strange about the reaction of the staff of the restaurant. Her eyes were just as wide and innocent as ever, though. "Wow!" she said in a perfect little girl voice. "Look at all the food!" She looked over to Fang, her eyes wide. "We got to eat it? Like... whatever we want?"
She was fairly innocent, wasn't she? Where HAD she been the past ten years? The little girl was getting almost as many stares as Elaine was, just because she was so cute, not to mention how strange looking she was. She seemed a perfect contrast to the boy she clung to almost constantly. White skin versus black skin, green versus red.

Fang had to swallow repeatedly to keep from openly drooling. Taking a man who had barely eaten for three days to an all-you-can-eat buffet was never the wisest choice, but how was Elaine to know? He merely blinked at the reaction of the staff, and then got an almost sinister look on his face, which he quickly wiped off. He HAD picked a winner! Who was to think that the little whisp of a girl he had picked to use as a meal ticket would be so rich? Meal ticket indeed! He had been planning on dropping her after dinner, but now his mind was changed. As they were seated at a table (Fang noticed with some amusement that the waitresses skirted around him with scared looks on their faces), he spoke up.
"So," he said to Elaine. "The trip here was quite enjoyable." Dear GOD, what a lie! "I am reluctant to pass up future traveling opportunities." Eating opportunities was more like it. "Perhaps you'd be interested in taking me on as your body guard? A fragile girl like yourself needs all the defense she can get. After all, Pokemon can only protect you from so much." It was true. Tame Pokemon were forbidden from attacking humans by law, with rare acceptances that were difficult to prove in court.

Elaine glanced at Fang, then to Serenity. Would Serenity travel with them? If Serenity did travel with them, she'd say yes to about anything... "There's no need for you to be my bodyguard, really. Since you have Serenity, and all, well...Three's a crowd." Elaine was tactfully seeing if Serenity was traveling with them. If, indeed, she wasn't... Well, Elaine would just hate to separate two siblings, right?
Her pokemon immediately were taken to another room, that seemed to be covered in grass. In a large hole in the middle of the room, an arrangement of fruits, berries, and the occasional meat greeted them. They rushed the food and began to eat hungrily, cheerfully.
Back at the table, the waitress was getting drink orders. "I'd like..." Elaine started, before being interrupted. "Would you like our finest bottle of Red Charme? Oh...Too young... How about our finest sparkling pecha juice?"
Elaine blushed as the Waitress seemed to be wanting to fill her with rich kinds of drinks, and she knew food would be an issue as well... "Please...J-Just some...."
The waitress interrupted again, excitedly. "I know! I'll bring you our best flavor of pop." She then glanced to the other two, after writing down Elaine's with her sighing. "Can I get your two orders?"

Serenity's face fell slightly. "Um... I'm sorry, but I can't travel with you," she said, her light little voice sad. "I'll be staying in town for a while, I think." She glanced up at Fang, and knowledge flashed between them. They both knew the situation, although neither of them had ever wanted to accept it. "But you two should definitely stay together!" she insisted. She didn't say why, but she gazed into Elaine's eyes, her own slightly pink eyes wide in the most adorable puppy eyes ever to see the light of day. She knew why Fang wanted to travel with her, but she also had her own secret reason she wanted them together.
When the waitress asked her order, she just blinked, seeming confused.

Fang merely smiled. He would get his way, eventually. He always did. He patted Serenity gently, though, his smiling facade breaking slightly. He knew they couldn't stay together, as heart wrenching as it was. He tried very hard not to smirk as Serenity began her infamous puppy dog pout. He'd been aroung it for a long time, and he still didn't know the secret to resisting it. He'd never seen someone say no to Serenity when she really wanted them to say yes. But being as sweet as she was, she didn't do it often.
He turned to the waitress, answering for himself and for his sister. "She'll have ice water, thank you. And as for myself, I'll have a bottle of your finest red wine." Red wine? How old was he, anyway?

Elaine hadn't been looking at Serenity when she spoke, and instead was trying to get the Waitresses' attention. "Really? Well, I hate to see you travel alone, Serenity..." She then turned to look at her, and immediately fell prey to the puppy dog eyes. "Groooowlithe growl growlll..." She answered accidentally in her growlithe voice, before covering her mouth with her hand and blushing. "I'm so sorry..I mean, yes... Perhaps a bodyguard would be a good idea, just in case."
She'd definately caught the Waitresses' attention with the growlithe calls. Blushing furiously, she asked,"C-could you just b-bring me s-some grape j-juice?" She preferred fruit juice to anything, except of course, white wine. She didn't drink it often, though, just on special occasions with her family.
The waitress quickly returned, setting down a large glass of grape juice, a large glass of water, and a bottle of wine with a glass. "Enjoy your meal!" She said with a giggle and a curtsy, before disappearing.
"So...Shall we go get our food?" Elaine suggested, blushing.

Serenity clapped her hands excitedly in a shameless show of joy when Elaine agreed to hire her brother. Now he could eat as much as he wanted, whenever he wanted! He'd be happy. She stood up, knowing that the food was over there, and she was here, so if she was going to go get some, she'd have to walk over there. That was about as far as her knowledge on the matter extended, however. If the food was over there, and they were here, did they move? They seemed to have set up residence here, so probably not. Did they take the food back? But oh, those big platforms seemed awfully large to carry, although she was sure Fang could manage it. It seemed a bit of a silly way to do it, though...

Fang considered the glass, then decided it wasn't really worth it, and took a long drink from the bottle. Ah, so good! It had been a long time since he'd had decent alcohol. Most of the stuff he stole these days was dime store crap. And he just couldn't stand beer. He set it down with a contented sigh, then stood up and led Serenity over to the salad section.
"OK, this is how it works." He lifted up a plate. "You put whatever you want from each of these sections onto your plate. Keep in mind that there's a lot of different foods here, so don't pile it all with one kind, so you'll have room for more. You take these." He lifted up a serving spoon. "And use them to get the food onto the plate. When you're done, you take the plate back to the table and eat it. Make sense?"
